Trim hunger cut-a-thon collects 400 lbs of food for local pantry

After a few years hiatus, the Trim Hunger Cut-a-Thon returned for a re-imagined event at the Fox River Mall on August 25, 2024. The event was a collaborative effort between Trim Hunger, the mall, The Salon Professional Academy, and local stylists from around the community. Everyone came together for a day filled with generosity and goodwill. Each haircut cost $25 dollars as a donation to Trim Hunger. And speaking of donations..

Mall walkers and shoppers donated food

This year’s event doubled as a Food Drive. From the moment the mall opened its doors, people dropped off bags and boxes of food. Even a few people who didn’t have food to give, chose to make a monetary donation. The generosity was heartwarming!

The mall picked the location for the Trim Hunger Cut-a-thon. It was a former salon that was sitting empty. It had the chairs, the mirrors and the shampoo bowl. All it needed was stylists and their clients. Some of the people who came in for a haircut, knew about the cut-a-thon ahead of time. Some of them were just people who happened to walk by and realized they could use a trim!

Outside the salon, volunteers were at tables, registering people for their haircuts and educating them about the non-profit and the academy. Other volunteers helped collect the food. At the end of the day the remaining volunteers packed up the food and loaded it into the Trim Hunger mobile. Trim Hunger founder, Josif Wittnik, delivered it all the next day to Vinnie’s Pantry that serves the Neenah/Menasha community. A scale at the pantry weighed the food in at more than 400 pounds!

The Trim Hunger Cut-a-thon not only highlighted the power of community but also showcased the spirit of giving that defines our mission. Together, we’ve made a real difference—one haircut at a time.
